Information for Chemung
The region turned into destroyed through the Sullivan Expedition on August 13, 1779, which fought on the Battle of Newtown, just west of the modern town of Chemung.

The town of Chemung became established in 1788 as the original metropolis within the region. Chemung misplaced territory when Tioga County became shaped in 1791. The metropolis of Newtown (now the metropolis of Elmira) became taken from Chemung in 1792.
